Mini Miglia star Deegan to race in Renault UK Clio Cup at Snetterton with Team Cooksport

Mini Miglia points leader Shayne Deegan will contest the next round of the Renault UK Clio Cup at Snetterton at the end of this month.

The two-time Stock Hatch champion will drive for Team Cooksport in the TOCA support category. His links with the team date back to when he bought the Citroen Saxo he took to title glory from team boss Josh Cook in 2012.

“It’s just a one-off but if we can find some sponsorship we will do the rest of the year,” said Deegan. “I can’t wait, it’s something I’ve been looking into for a while.”

Deegan hasn’t driven the Clio yet but is confident of quickly getting to grips with the car. “I’ve never driven a car with a paddleshift gearbox before,” he said. “I’m hoping to be on the pace of the frontrunners and be as close to the podium as possible.

“I’ve never been involved in anything on this scale before so I’m really excited.”

Honda Cadet produced some of the closest racing of the weekend, but come the chequered flag in each final no one was able to beat Oliver Bearman.

The Mini Max class was all about Jonny Edgar. Unbeaten all weekend he was rarely challenged until an interrupted final two allowed Klaas Kooiker to close in, but Edgar never looked like missing out on maximum points for the weekend.

When Rory Hudson spun out of the lead in Junior Max final one, Joe Turney was able to take a comfortable victory. In final two, Turney showed his first win was no fluke as he dominated once again beating his team-mate, Johnathan Hoggard, to the line by over four seconds.

If there was a secret to going fast round Fulbeck, Josh White certainly knew it. He was untouchable in both Rotax Max finals and only team-mate Josh Skelton was able to get anywhere near him.

Gordon Mutch’s rise from 12th to second in final one set things up for Junior X30 final two, with an unbeaten Angus Fender alongside. Fender got his tactics spot on and allowed Mutch to do the leading before passing him with just over a lap to go.

Brett Ward’s turn of pace left the rest of the Senior X30 drivers scratching their heads as he went on to dominate both finals being followed home by Matthew Hirst and Josh Collings respectively.
