Colin Calder completed a double in the British Sprint Championship as the regular battlers headed to Kirkistown in Northern Ireland for the series’ annual ‘away’ weekend.

On Saturday Colin Calder continued his strong form with victory. However, his daughter Heather continued her strong form and she was only a few tenths adrift of her father. Also closely matched were Terry Holmes and John Graham. While they were fractions from each other, they were still a couple of seconds adrift of the Calder clan.

Steve Miles, who has contested every round so far this year, was fifth in his two-litre car. He was followed by former British Sprint champion Nick Algar. Their two cars terribly different: Miles’ Van Diemen chassis has been extensively developed while Nick Algar’s DJ Firehawk is powered by a supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa engine.

Again the pair were separated by 0.3s. These two were closely followed by Holmes’s co-driver Graham Porrett.

On Sunday the Calders suffered issues with their rear wing mounting. Nevertheless, the pair managed a one-two once again.

Holmes’ first Sunday run-off outing was aborted with high oil temperature. However, ultimately his second run was just insufficient to overcome Graham by a tenth.

Both the two-litre runners had a spill each during the run offs. Algar, having experienced brake issues over the weekend, suffered a jammed throttle on his opening Sunday run but retrieved matters with a record-breaking second attempt.

Miles also broke the record on his run off opener but a little over enthusiasm on his second run meant he was unable to complete that one.
