Ginetta Junior title rivals Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton are set to team up in British GT next year as part of HHC Motorsport’s planned move into the category.

The leading Ginetta Junior team has submitted an entry into the GT4 class for 2017 but with the class oversubscribed it has now entered the selection process that decides which teams will be on the grid.

Tregurtha, 16, won this year’s Junior crown by 40 points from Douglas Motorsport driver Middleton, 17, but the duo are set to share a Ginetta G55 GT4 next year.

“I’m really excited, I tested the GT4 Supercup car and was fast but the British Gt-spec car is a little bit different,” said Tregurtha. “Since I can remember, I’ve been trying to watch things like American Le Mans Series and I’ve always liked endurance racing; that’s where I want to go.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Stuart next year. I know he’s very fast, hard working and knows that we will both have to support each other to get the best out of the car.

“There were times like Thruxton where we were together on track but we drove calmly and didn’t take each other off unlike others. We’re racing together the next three weekends to get our licences as well as some bonding for 2017.”

As part of this Tregurtha raced HHC’S Reynard SF79 Historic Formula Ford 2000 car in the Open Wheel Allcomers race at last weekend’s Walter Hayes Trophy, at Silverstone finishing 13th, while Middleton competed in an Elden Mk8. The two also raced Ginetta G40s in the Closed Wheel race, with Middleton beating Tregurtha by one place in 18th.

HHC team boss Charlie Kemp added: “It’s our long-term aim to run a second car in GT4 and also operate an entry in GT3 as well, so our commitment to SRO and British GT is an absolute one as we aim to make this our home for the foreseeable future.”
