AMD expands into Europe with its own Mercedes for Mowle and Keen
The AMD Tuning.com team will expand into European GT competition next season after ordering a new Mercedes AMG GT3 for British championship regulars Lee Mowle and Phil Keen.
Mowle has already placed an order for the car, and is due to take delivery of it early next year. Mowle and team-mate Joe Osborne ran their BMW Z4 with the AMD team during this year’s British GT Championship, but skipped the season finale after a dispute with officials and while they sold the Z4.
Mowle will graduate into the pan-european Michelin GT3 Cup class, and has recruited Keen to share the car as Osborne has clashing commitments. Keen finished second in British GT this year with the Barwell Lamborgini Huracan team.
AMD has also lodged an entry for British GT3 with the car too, but has yet to confirm drivers.
“This will be a big year for us as, alongside our British touring car commitments, we’ll be running the new Mercedes in Europe and the UK,” said AMD Tuning team boss Shaun Hollamby.
“Lee’s bought the car as it was time for an update after four years with the Z4. The AMG is a big step forward because the newgeneration GT3 cars are much faster and more advanced. It will be great to run a car in Europe, and we’re planning to do the Road to Le Mans support race at the 24 Hours.
“The car will also run in British GT and we’re in talks with two driver pairings over the entry.”
Mowle added: “We did a phenomenal job with the package of the older Z4 that we had. We feel the Mercedes ticks all the boxes.”
