Jones wowed by potential of the JRM Mini RX

Former rallycross champion Nick Jones was impressed by the performance of JRM Racing’s Mini RX on his FIA World Rallycross Championship debut in Argentina, despite retiring from the event in Q1 with a technical problem.

Jones, who last competed regularly 16 years ago, returned to the driving seat for his World RX debut without a pre-event test, but got to grips with the car quickly in practice on Saturday morning, in changeable conditions.

“From the first practice the car was so much easier to drive than I was expecting,” said Jones, who believes that with the steps JRM are currently taking to develop the Mini RX, it can make significant performance gains for next season.

“Now that I’ve driven the car, I think it has a lot of potential,” added Jones. “In the dry it was fantastic, it was a different story in the wet but we know what we need to do to cure that and hopefully in the winter we can do that and be ready for next year.

“I must say a massive thank you to the JRM team for the opportunity – I never dreamed I would drive a rallycross Supercar in a World Championship event.

“I fluffed the start in Q1. It was really wet but there was more grip than there had been in practice so it bogged down.

“I still managed to catch another car before the first corner, then we had an issue.

“If we kept driving it would have done a lot of damage.

“The level in the World Rallycross Championship is unbelievable. It’s gone up a massive step in the last few years.”
