Regional returns and format changes for FF
The provisional calendar for next year’s BRSCC National Formula Ford 1600 Championship includes a return to regional strongholds for the series, such as Knockhill and Kirkistown.
With the exception of the round at Oulton Park, the format of the championship’s meetings has also been altered to run as triple-headers, comprising a 15-minute qualifying session followed by three 15-minute races.
Castle Combe, Kirkistown and Knockhill all return to the calendar at the demise of Croft, Rockingham and Zandvoort.
“It’s more of a true national championship now, it’s mainly British-based rounds whereas last year we went [to] places like Zandvoort and to Croft where there haven’t been regular Formula Ford races in recent years,” said Oldfield Motorsport manager James Oldfield. “We’re going to where there is a predominant source of local competitors already, which will help boost grids on the weekend we go [with] people just doing individual rounds as well.”
The championship has also introduced several new incentives for drivers competing for a part-season.
The all-new Tourers Trophy, the most prominent of those introductions, is scored at a single round in each country and encompasses the meetings at Oulton Park, Anglesey, Knockhill and Kirkistown.
