Ginetta prize test for Sports 2000 champion
The winner of this year’s Sports 2000 Duratec Championship will win a fully funded test in a Ginetta GT4 Supercup machine after a new link-up with Century Motorsport.
The British GT and international sportscar team has offered the prize, which is worth around £4,000, as it seeks to both support the championship and also expand its racing activities.
Century will field cars in British GT, the GT4 Supercup and European endurance racing this year.
Team head Nathan Freke said: “I’ve known [Sports 2000 regular] Mike Turner for a few years and he’s previously recommended some drivers to come and test with us, so this made sense as a prize.
“S2000 has been going for years and is a very credible championship and a lot of its champions have gone into GT racing. This chance adds value for the Duratec champion and also gets Century known around the paddock.”
Turner said: “Every series is looking for a way to make itself more attractive. GT racing is so high profile at the moment so it’s a very relevant prize.
“Our reigning champion, Michael Gibbins, had a test with Century last year, so working with Century seemed a perfect tie up for us.”
In addition to the Duratec prize test, S2000 constructor MCR will award a funded test in one of its Duratec cars to the winner of this year’s Pinto Championship, which runs for 138bhp-engined machines. ● Century Motorsport will expand into European prototype racing this year after taking delivery of a Ginetta G57P2. The team plans to run in the Creventic Proto series, which consists of 12 hour races, or Vdev. The deal follows Century’s debut prototype event with Ginetta in the recent Abu Dhabi and Dubai meetings.
