Cross kart champion Steinsholt signs up

Norwegian cross kart racer Ole Henry Steinsholt will compete in the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship this season, following in the footsteps of European champion Kevin Hansen.

Steinsholt is only 14 but has already claimed 125cc cross kart titles in his homeland and he also won the NEZ (North European Zone) Championship.

He will make his rallycross debut at Croft on March 19.

Fellow Scandinavian Kevin Hansen lifted the Junior RX title in 2013 before he went on to win the FIA European Rallycross Championship last season.

“Competing in the Junior Swift is an excellent way of gaining important international experience.” said Steins holt, who will also graduate to the 250cc cross kart category in Norway this year.

“Driving a right-hand-drive car is a new experience in what will be a competitive environment. all this will help me develop as a driver and will hopefully give me an edge once I am 16 and can start driving in the Norwegian championship. without this chance I would have had to wait another year before driving rallycross in Norway.”

The young driver will be mentored by European Rallycross Touringcar Championship race-winner David Nordgard, alongside Per Olaf Storemyr.

Steinsholt drove a Junior RX car for the first time recently in Norway, as part of the Swift series’ annual trip to Scandinavia for drivers to experience ice driving.

He drove the car used by Tom Llewellin to win three events in 2016, which will remain in Norway for Steinsholt to get more seat time ahead of the opening round of the year while a new car is built by Peter Gwynne Motorsport in the UK.
