It was a fairly cautious start for Arron Newby and Andrew Leach’s Subaru Impreza, but it paid dividends as a seven-second opening stage lead grew to a 55s victory, setting the fastest time on all but one stage.

Dave Welch/steve Mcnulty led the chase all day, but a mistake on stage three and a field trip and stall on stage four cost them dearly.

John Griffiths/nigel Wetton had recovered from visiting a ditch on stage two to share third with fellow Impreza crew Gary Wayne/neal Bloor. But a wrong slot on stage five put Griffiths out, while Wayne finally lost out to Ross Daniels/paul Mankin’s Impreza in a last stage duel for the final position on the podium.

Having held third after the opening run, Hugh Peat/paul Swallow’s Mitsubishi Lancer E9 secured fifth despite a stage five puncture, with Stuart Newby/ John Cope’s Impreza sixth.

Dave Hornbrook/ann Forster’s Mitsubishi E4 lost out to Newby Senior on the penultimate stage, but had enough in hand to retain seventh from the recovering John Tolson/brian Ilaria, while John/ Ryan Godbehere’s Impreza and Luke Sparrow/robert Ginn’s Lancer E9 rounded off the top 10.
