New Mercedes AMG GT4 for Fox Motorsport in 2018 season
Fox Motorsport has become the first team to enter a new Mercedes AMG GT4 in the British GT Championship this season.
The team has secured an entry for the all-new German machine, which will be driven by GT Cup graduates Michael Broadhurst and Mark Murfitt.
Fox, which is run by racer Paul Mcneilly, last competed in British GT running a Ginetta G55 GT4 for sporadic outings back in 2016. The team has also run a Ferrari 488 GT3 in recent years.
Murfitt entered GT racing as an amateur this year and competed in both GT Cup and Britcar in a G55 alongside Broadhurst. Broadhurst has a long history with British GT4, having won the first-ever GT4 race at Oulton Park in 2008 alongside Joe Osborne.
The team is scheduled to take delivery of the new AMG in early March, just a few weeks before the start of the 2018 campaign.
Broadhurst said: “I’ve been buzzing ever since I was told about the plans to return to British GT. If the performance of the Mercedes GT3 cars at the moment is anything to go by, the GT4 is going to be an awesome piece of kit.
“It’ll be a challenge to learn the car in such a short space of time, but the team at Fox is hugely experienced and I know they’ll do a great job.”
Murfitt added: “In terms of prestige and driver quality British GT is the best series in the country. While it will be a huge challenge for just my second season of racing, I couldn’t be in a better environment. Michael’s been a superb teacher so far.”
Fox boss Mcneilly added: “Michael’s a proven race winner at this level and Mark is a very fast learner and has developed massively since his debut last year. We can’t wait to get started.”
