New BMW Car Club series to begin this year, catering for a wide range of models

-

The BMW Car Club GB, the only Bmw-endorsed car club in the UK, will launch a racing series in 2018 for a wide range of the marque’s cars.

The BMW Car Club Racing Series has revealed a 14-race provisional calendar, which shares with the 750 Motor Club, Aston Martin Owners’ Club and Castle Combe Racing Club. The organisers have deferred championship status until 2019.

It will share four events – Silverstone, Croft, Donington Park and Snetterton – with the 750MC, where it hopes to attract some of the entrants from the existing M3 Cup and 330 Challenge.

Those competitors will be offered a discount on the entry fee to compete.

The classes will be divided and use a power-to-weight ratio system to keep cars even, aiming at production-spec vehicles. Tyres are open but must be treaded, not slick, with the aim of allowing cars from different championships to gain more track time without having to buy tyres. Most Bmw-based championships run control tyres.

“The car club have been asking me to do this for quite a while,” said Neil Mcdonald, who will be the series’ co-ordinator and is the competition secretary of the BMW Car Club GB.

“We’re trying to get back to the grassroots, it’s club motorsport, we’re trying to stop some of the chequebook racing that’s going on.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for drivers with BMWS to go racing. We want it to be enjoyable, cost effective and clean racing. We’ll have strict driving standards and make no apologies for that. Some people can’t afford to repair their cars every two weeks.”
