One-make Westfield championship to launch in 2019 for six triple-header meetings
A new Westfield one-make championship is set to launch in 2019, spearheaded by GT drivers Mark Edmonds and Brent Millage.
The duo both spent an early part of their careers in the Westfield championship that ran in the 1990s and now want to recreate that series.
The new championship will be run by Keptech – their new Westfield build company – and will be administered by the British Automobile Racing Club.
It will feature Keptech-built Westfields fitted with a two-litre twin cam Ford Zetec engine that produces 150bhp.
“The plan is to launch in 2019 – that gives us this year to build up the interest and we will have taster days,” said Millage. “The championship will be a level playing field and we feel there is a gap in the market as some of the other [Seven-based] series have got quite professional. This will be a clubman championship.
“If it goes well we might put in another category with a more powerful car.”
Edmonds, who founded the MTECH team that has regularly competed in British GT, added: “We both started in the Westfield series so it’s a nostalgic thing for us. We’re poachers turned gamekeepers.”
Six triple-header meetings are planned for the 2019 season and it is expected that a fully race-ready car will be available for £24,000 from Keptech.
