QUICK LAPS THE FASTEST NEWS ROUND-UP

Ralf Aron claimed victory in the Pau Grand Prix last weekend, but wet weather limited the contest to just eight racing laps. Aron passed poleman, reigning BRDC British Formula 3 champion Enaam Ahmed, at the start and held on to win, but only half points were awarded as 75 per cent of the distance wasn’t completed. The earlier European F3 wins went to Guan Yu Zhou and Formula Renault Eurocup champion Sacha Fenestraz… Will Power gave the Penske squad its 200th Indycar win after taking the spoils on the Indianapol­is road course last weekend. His victory was made more difficult when reigning champion Josef Newgarden made a failed pass on Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais at Turn 1 as he locked up under braking and hit the inside kerb, spinning off and stalling his car’s engine. That prompted a final dash into the pits that should have aided Power’s main rival Robert Wickens, handing him a free stop. But a challenge never materialis­ed from the fading Wickens, who struggled with fuel saving, as Scott Dixon took over the role of challenger… Yvan Muller claimed his first win after returning from retirement by taking victory in the opening World Touring Car Cup race on the Nordschlei­fe last week. Muller grabbed the lead at the start and was never headed, despite pressure from team-mate Thed Bjork. Honda driver Esteban Guerrieri won the reversed-grid race as points leader Gabriele Tarquini crashed out, while Bjork won the finale… Kevin Harvick took another NASCAR Cup win at Kansas last weekend, his fifth of the season. Harvick started on pole and battled with Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson for much of the race but needed to make a penultimat­e lap pass on Martin Truex Jr to take the win…
