The first BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Pembrey double-header of the year took place last weekend, where competitors sampled the Welsh circuit’s new-look layout for the first time.

The track was run in both directions across the two days. For 2018 the venue has been adapted to move the rallycross circuit into a position where spectators can view almost an entire race from most vantage points. Ford Ka racer Tony Lynch and Vauxhall Nova campaigner Patrick Ryan took a win apiece in the Supermodified category, Ryan fighting back for a podium finish on the opening day through the B final after enduring throttle problems in the qualifying stages. He then beat Lynch to victory on Sunday. Marc Jones split the pair in Saturday’s final, while Fred Ling scored a podium finish on Sunday.

Tomasz Chojnacki won a closely fought Production final on day one, chased throughout by Eddie Gibbs and Keith Kershaawe, the latter driver having qualified on pole but dropped to eighth at the start. Sunday’s Production win went the way of Andrew Smith. Driving a Renault Clio he passed Luke Mason for victory in the final.

In the Junior category, 2018 newcomer Luke Constantine twice beat elder brother Tom to move into the overall BTRDA rallycross points lead, while Morgan Wroot completed the podium on day one. It was a Constantine podium lock-out on Sunday, Luke and Tom’s cousin James completing the top three.

Ryan Taylor claimed a maiden victory in the Classic category on Saturday ahead of Richard Todd and Ryan Stutchbury. Taylor again led the second final but was passed by Stutchbury. Supermodified regular Todd Crooks made it onto the podium.

Mike Manning and Paul Davis took a win each in the Production 4x4 class. Andy Grant dominated the Clubman 4x4 category with his Ford Focus to score two wins.
