Timerzyanov ready to take on his own president in unusual Dodge Dart racer
Triple FIA European Rallycross champion Timur Timerzyanov will race a restored Dodge Dart rallycross Supercar in the annual Presidents Cup rallycross event at Kazan in Tatarstan, Russia this weekend.
Timerzyanov raced the car four times in Global Rallycross and X Games events in 2013 deputising for Travis Pastrana, but now owns the car raced by Pastrana’s team-mate Bryce Menzies.
“The story of this car has been a bit different to what it should have been,” Timerzyanov told MN. “It should have been crushed but I found a solution to get it. I got it for the parts but decided that actually the car would be much better if I put it all together. The biggest problem is that these cars are becoming a bit old and it’s hard to find spare parts.”
Pastrana scored the Dart’s only victory in its two-year programme in New Hampshire in 2012. This weekend, Timerzyanov will take on former European Rallycross racer and Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov, who will drive an ex Peugeot-hansen 208 WRX.
“This is one of the main events for the Russian Championship,” said Timerzyanov. “I just drive there for fun, last year I did it with a Citroen DS3 which I had also raced some years ago, maybe in the future I will find some of my other old cars. There is no pressure this weekend. Our president is driving a really good car now. We know that he will be a difficult and good competitor. I don’t know how competitive the Dodge will be, but I hope that it will be enough to win it.”
