Jasper is the Wethersfield winner in dominant display

Mark Jasper and co-driver Don Whyatt (Ford Escort Mk2) produced a polished performance to take a 24-second victory at Wethersfield, setting five out of six fastest stage times while holding off challenges from Stephen Tilburn/jody Wilson’s Escort Mk2 and Ross Daniels/ Neil Bye (Subaru Impreza).

In dry conditions that ensured very fast stages, Jasper jumped into a foursecond lead on SS1 and, staying mechanically trouble-free, increased it steadily ahead of Daniels and Tilburn who scrapped closely for second place. Tilburn pushed hard on SS3 and inherited runner-up spot but for the second year running his tyres suffered with the effort, wearing the edges down to the steel cord.

In the later stages Robin Adams/ray Keith (Escort Mk2) made a challenge for the podium after recovering from a slow start and climbed from eighth to fourth.
