Heathcote keen on an RX2 return for 2019 alongside more seat time elsewhere
Former British Rallycross champion Nathan Heathcote is eyeing an increased programme of international events in 2019.
Heathcote graduated to World RX’S single-make support series RX2 this year and completed his season with a fourth semi-final appearance in South Africa.
While the British driver has solely competed in the seven World RX supporting rounds in 2018, the majority of his competition have competed in either the Rallyx Nordic Championship or ARX2 in America.
Heathcote believes increased seat time next year is critical for him to improve on his position of 11th overall in the standings this term.
“I had good hopes from the start of the year but the competition has been really hard throughout the season and everyone’s been on good pace, so it’s been a massive learning curve for me,” said the 2017 British RX champion. “If I do the RX2 next year I will definitely go into it with good hopes knowing the circuits now and the main thing for me I’ve just got to be consistent, that’s probably been my biggest issue this year.”
Heathcote hopes to stay with the Team Faren squad. “I hope to stay in RX2 next year and to do Rallyx Nordic as well. If you’re doing this class you’ve got to be doing both championships to get the regular seat time like all the other drivers. This team has been awesome to me all season, they’re like a family and if I do this again next year I’ll be staying put.”
