RALI BAE CEREDIGION WILL BE ‘GOOD FOR AREA’ SAYS EVANS

First closed-road event in Wales under new legislation due to be held this weekend

Wales’s first closed-road rally, the Rali Bae Ceredigion, will be held this weekend with a quality entry list set to make the event one to remember.

As well as attracting some of Britain’s leading rallying stars, the rally’s broadcast coverage will be extensive.

World Rally Championship driver Elfyn Evans, 2003 world champion co-driver

Phil Mills and two-time British Rally champion Dai Llewellyn will be providing commentary for the event.

Becs Williams and Emyr Penlan from WRC All Live will be conducting stage-end interviews live on Facebook.

M-sport driver Evans outlined to MN what’s in store on the stages: “They’re [the stages] quite nice to be honest, quite narrow in places.

“The Tarmac is really abrasive so that will be nice for the guys, especially in September [as] you could get some rain so [there won’t be] too much shiny Tar for them. It’ll be a good thing for the area and I’m interested to see how it goes. The roads are not easy by any means, especially for the guys with wider cars. There’s not a lot of room for error for sure.”

The man who finished second to Evans in the 2016 British Rally Championship, Tom Cave, heads the entry in his Hyundai i20 R5, a week before this year’s BRC title decider on the Galloway Hills Rally. Cave is favourite for victory but has R5 returnee Osian Pryce and Meirion Evans keen to hunt him down and etch their names on the first ever winners’ trophy.

A gaggle of Motorsport UK Asphalt Championship contenders will also be out for victory. Daniel Harper (Mini JCW) and Damian Cole (Ford Fiesta RS WRC) are both in strong veins of form while Hugh Hunter is one of five Welshmen among the top six seeds eager to make history in his Focus WRC05.

Stephen Simpson and BRC co-driver’s champion Patrick Walsh line up in a Fiesta R5 while Jason Pritchard is a wildcard in a modified Ford Escort Mk2, which is owned by Scott Williams and will be driven by former World Rally Championship driver Francois Duval on the Escort Rally Special in Belgium later this month.
