Ferrari Challenge to visit Donington in 2020
Ferrari Challenge UK is to add Donington Park to its calendar for its second season next year, and is also in discussions to race on Brands Hatch’s Grand
Prix circuit.
Various Ferrari Challenge categories, single-make series for the 488 Challenge, take place around the world with the UK championship joining those ranks this season.
Francesco Balli, regional manager of Ferrari North Europe, confirmed that the UK category will race at Donington in 2020 on what will remain a fourround calendar, though it has not been decided which circuit Donington will replace. Ferrari Challenge UK visited Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Croft and Silverstone in 2019.
The championship is also in talks to race on the fulllength Brands Hatch GP circuit in 2020, having used the Indy layout for its season-opener this year.
Balli added that he expects this year’s Ferrari Challenge UK grid sizes of around 20 to be maintained in 2020.
“We expect more or less the same drivers [as in 2019],” he said. “We do not have a need to have more than 20, 25 drivers, this is the dimension we believe is correct because, if a customer wanted to increase the scale of it, there is the European series where we have 50 drivers in two different categories. We are fine with this environment
[in the UK].”
Series competitor Alex
Moss was pleased at the Donington addition, though also supported expanding the calendar.
“It could do with a couple more rounds,” he said. “Next year looks strong, Donington will be a challenging circuit for these cars, and I love Donington, it’s one of my most successful tracks.”
