Number of options open for Hone ahead of 2020 campaign
Jordan Hone says he is torn between three options for next season, with one being to join forces with EDSL Sport and compete for the Junior
British Rally Championship.
Hone made a one-off appearance for the Farnham outfit in the series on the
Pirelli International Rally back in April where he finished fourth in the R2 field.
Finding the money to drive one of EDSL Sport’s Ford Fiestas in 2020 is an attractive proposition, as the overall winner will be handed a cheque for €60,000 (£53,500) to put towards a drive in the Junior World Rally Championship.
Failing that, Hone is looking to continue competing in his family-owned Opel Adam in the new-for-2020 BRC Academy.
The overall winner of that will receive free entries into every BRC round the following year.
“Joining EDSL is something I wouldn’t say no to,” said Hone. “It is still an attractive option and having experience of the championship means they will hit the ground running come next February on the Cambrian.
“I feel I still have some things left to achieve in an R2 car, and I feel that I have unfinished business in the BRC, so I’d like to go back there in some sort of capacity.”
Between discussions with his own personal sponsors and with support from the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, Hone says the possibility of switching over to an R5 also requires serious consideration.
He made his R5 debut on the Cork ‘20’ International Rally last month where he showed flashes of speed despite his Fiesta being hampered by mechanical issues.
“Financially, stepping up to an R5 is not possible for me at the moment, but I will be working hard over the winter months to make sure the Cork ‘20’ isn’t just a one-off [in an R5],” he said.
“Jumping between an R2 car and an R5 car would be difficult because they both require two different driving styles. I would rather concentrate on one class instead of juggling the two next year.”
