WILLIAMS FW06

Current owner:martin Bullock

-

It is FW06 chassis 4

“I’ve had it for about three years. It was sold through Hall and Hall and it was previously owned by Abba Kogan for many years. In that time he did lend it to a couple of people as well, so it raced from time to time. It’s done a couple of Historic Monacos, one where it lost the front wing with a Japanese driver in it.”

It was once disguised as an FW07

“Prior to that it was owned by Adrian Hamilton, I think. It had been disguised as an FW07 but it has got the proper FW06 chassis 2 mark where it should have. John Cadd, who worked on these cars in period, knew where to look and found it straightaway.”

The car was found in Morocco

“It was nailed to a wall in a casino in Morocco, along with a Porsche. Hamilton wanted to buy the Porsche but the guy said he had to buy both. He was rather upset when he found out it was an FW06. I was advised by Andrew Waring, who had another FW06, chassis 3, which has recently sold to a collector and unlikely to be seen on the track again.”

Cadd restored the car

“Cadd very kindly took the car on as a project and has brought it completely back to how it should be. Particularly for Monaco in 2018 we went right through the stickers to get it absolutely right. When I bought the car it wasn’t eligible for Monaco and the year after I bought it they moved the date on. Even better, we got to be in the proper pits at Monaco and we had the Toro Rosso pit. I’m very happy with the car and the job that Cadd has done is absolutely superb. He did 30 years with Williams, more recently in the heritage department restoring these cars. He’s worked with Alan Jones, Nelson Piquet,

Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill, and now he’s having to put up with me!”

It won at the Gold Cup

“Until this year’s Oulton Park Gold Cup, that was the last time I’d run it. This year we’ve been busy with the Juniors and the Formula 2, so it just sat there and we looked at what weekend we had spare and the Gold Cup was the perfect weekend. That’s probably its only race of this season.”
