Ex-british GT driver Wallace to race Clio

-

Former British GT racer Ben Wallace is the first driver to be confirmed as competing in the revamped Clio

Cup UK series this year, after signing for Student Motorsport.

The 20-year-old drove a Ginetta G55 for Team Hard in the GT4 class of British GT in 2018 and has also previously raced in the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

He will now switch to the relaunched

Clio category, which features a new fifthgeneration car and has joined the British GT support bill.

Wallace will race for Student Motorsport – the racing arm of a new membership network that provides students, graduates, educators and professionals with the resources to develop skills and links to the motorsport industry.

Team manager JP Latham stressed that, while students will gain experience with the race team, they will be overseen by experienced personnel.

“Ben is going to bring vital driver experience to the team,” said Latham, who first met Wallace when he drove for Hillspeed in Ginetta Junior in 2014.

“He wants to enjoy his racing and do well, but we’re also going to utilise his experience to help our other driver and with the team personnel to inspire the next generation of motorsport professionals.”

lthe draft regulations for the series have been unveiled and include a new Junior Cup class for drivers aged under 20. Unlike the main championship, where two dropped scores will apply, Junior Cup drivers can drop four scores, meaning they do not have to commit to the full season.
