ROAD RALLY ROUND-UP

- Ian Mills

The Ryemoor Trophy Rally was dominated by Richard Hunter/gary Evans as, after being fastest by two minutes on the opening section, the Ford Escort crew were over five minutes clear of the field by the finish.

Relative rally newcomers Dan Sedgwick/sam Ambler took the runner-up spot in their Peugeot 106 Rallye.

The Ryemoor was a classic Yorkshire Moor rally; challenging navigators with a plot-and-bash format throughout its 130 miles.

The father-and-son team of Malcolm and Richard Holdsworth were in second at the halfway point, but retired soon afterwards with a damaged exhaust on their Honda Civic. Third at Petrol were top seeds Steve Featherstone/kevin Bardon (Ford Fiesta). However, they missed a route check in the second half and the additional five-minute penalty dropped them to fifth at the end.

Clint Eade/sam Collis started at number three, but were an early retirement after causing substantial damage to their BMW after an off.
