2.0L CUP A PERFECT FIT FOR JORDAN

- Paul Lawrence

Mike Jordan has been preparing race-winning Porsches since the late 1980s and his team is one of the most successful in UK Porsche racing. These days, the Jordan Racing Team that he runs with his son Andrew specialises in historic racing, so the 2.0L Cup is a perfect fit for the Tamworth-based team.

“It has really taken off and we’ve got five cars in it now,” says the elder Jordan of the 2.0L Cup.

“As far as I’m concerned, after the HRDC Austin A35 Academy, it’s the only historic one-make category. It has really grabbed people’s imagination.

“They have always been beautiful cars to drive but if you are doing something like the Spa Six Hours, there are always a lot of faster cars out there and you spend most of your time watching your mirror. But put a grid of 40 of them together and they are equal with lots of people to race against.

“Some of the drivers like to have more than one car to race during a Peter Auto weekend, so this is an ideal extra car to have. Shaun Lynn races his Group C car with Peter Auto, but now also has a 2.0L Cup car as well.

“It’s probably taken off more than I thought it would. It’s taken a year or two to get a completely level playing field but I think they’ve done that now. They are very nice events with a really good paddock set-up.

“They are an expensive car to go and buy but once they’ve been built properly, they are not hugely expensive to run because it is a Porsche underneath so all the running gear is very good. Brake pad usage is very low and we could nearly go through a season on a set of discs. They are not that hard on tyres: everyone uses treaded Avon CR6 tyres, which is a great tyre.”
