James Hedley was the form man in the opening British F4 Championship races as the under-financed Brit took two wins, including Fortec’s first F4 Thruxton success. Starting race one from ninth on the grid, Hedley carved his way through the field to hit the front on lap three and fended off the challenge of team-mate Joel Granfors. Hedley started eighth for race two, the championship’s first fully reversed grid race, but was on the attack instantly, fourth at the end of the opening tour and grabbing the lead from Thomas Ikin (Arden Motorsport) on lap five. Hedley became embroiled in a racestopping four-car cash in race three which was restarted after the third BTCC race allowing teams repair time. Again from eighth, he took third place as Joseph Loake headed home McKenzy Cresswell in a JHR Developments one-two.
Theo Edgerton (TCR) dominated both Porsche Sprint Challenge races, the first on a damp track on Saturday in which he battled from third to first on the opening lap to win from a charging Ethan Hawkey (Team Parker Racing) and IN2Racing’s Charles Clark. Edgerton was equally dominant in the televised second race as he pulled clear of Hawkey who fell into tyre woes and was reeled in by Thruxton newcomer Jack Bartholemew (Redline Racing) who snatched second late on.
The latest intake of Ginetta Junior drivers didn’t disappoint with
Tom Edgar (R Racing) coming out on top of a frantic opener to win from Seb Hopkins (Elite Motorsport) and Josh Miller (R Racing) up from eighth on the grid. Callum Voisin (R Racing) followed in brother Bailey’s footsteps by winning race two after a last-lap dive at the Complex ahead of teammate Aston Millar and poleman Seb Hopkins (Elite Motorsport).
Mini Challenge honours fell to Matt Hammond (Excelr8) and Harry Nunn (A Reeve Motorsport) on Saturday before Alex Solley (A Reeve Motorsport) triumphed in an all-action race on Sunday in which four different drivers took a turn in the lead. Solley assumed the lead two laps from home and fended off the challenge from Hammond and Dominic Wheatley (PerformanceTek Racing) to bag the win, while Elite Motorsport’s John Bennett and Xentek’s Josh Steed shared Ginetta GT5 honours.
