BTCC TEAM BOSS HOLLAMBY RELISHES EURO NASCAR RUN
The AmD Tuning boss takes class victory in his latest go at the American-style event and now is looking for more appearances
Former British Touring Car Championship team boss Shaun Hollamby got behind the wheel returning to NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at Brands Hatch’s recent American SpeedFest.
After the merger of his AmD Tuning BTCC team with Motorbase for 2021, Hollamby has stepped down from the team and has more time for his own racing ambitions
As per Euro NASCAR’s format, Hollamby at Brands shared his DF1 Racing Chevrolet Camaro with Marc Goossens, and the AmD boss finished sixth overall in the second race winning the Legend Trophy class.
Hollamby told Motorsport News: “I’ve always liked the series but it always clashed with touring car rounds, then two years ago the Brands round didn’t clash so I started the season [doing three rounds].
“Then I got a call from Jerome Galpin who runs the series and he was looking for drivers for the [2021] Brands round, because of Covid restrictions some of the drivers wouldn’t be able to come. There was a seat available in Elite 2 which is the Rookie-Am level, but lap times are pretty similar.
“It’s something I’d do again. I love it. The cars look the part, the series is well run and has a good following. The costs are quite restricted. Sharing is a huge cost saving, it’s probably 75% cheaper.
“It was really interesting to race alongside somebody of that calibre [Goossens], I like trying to learn from people who do it really well. I’m fitter than I was two years ago and I have been doing some racing in Historic Formula 3.”
