TCR UK’s return north of the border

-

When: July 22-23

Where: Knockhill

This year, on July 22-23, TCR UK’s tintops return to acrobatic Knockhill for the first time since the championship’s inaugural 2018 season. And TCR UK crosses the border in much better shape than it did five years ago.

The TCR concept got off to a stuttering start on these shores from its 2018 introduction, and just three cars competed in 2019’s season opener. But with the persistent efforts of Stewart Lines’ Maximum Motorsport things slowly turned. The number of TCR cars in the UK multiplied from six to 60 and TCR UK carved its niche as an accessible UK tin-top option. The contest started last season with a standalone 25-car entry.

Moreover it heralded a competitive and exciting 2022 championship, wherein title honours were taken by former British Touring Car competitor Chris Smiley alongside fellow ex-BTCC man Bert Taylor, returning to motorsport with his Restart Racing team in a remarkable story. Driver and team have recently confirmed their title defence.

Knockhill organisers anticipate around 30 cars, and they should provide some sight on the inimitable Fife circuit. As ever the local welcome will be warm too.

And it won’t only be about the headliner. TCR UK is back with the British Racing and Sports Car Club and it’ll have a strong support line-up including the promising new Audi TT Cup and Evolution Trophy plus ever-entertaining stalwarts such as the Fiestas and BMW Compact Cup. While the Knockhill Motor Sport Club-organised Modsports is set for a 30-plus turnout for what is its 2023 showcase event.
