BERG GETS BRITISH F4 SEAT WITH FORTEC
Son of F1 racer set to continue his UK single-seater progress
Alex Berg, the 17-year-old son of former Formula 1 racer and longtime racing school boss Allen, will race in British Formula 4 this season with Fortec Motorsports.
Berg Jr has raced competitively in the F4 US championship for the past two seasons. He then made his bow on UK shores late last year, racing in the Formula Ford end-of-year blue-riband events the Festival at Brands Hatch and Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone with Team Canada Scholarship.
He reached the final of both events and was set for a strong Hayes finish as he was running seventh in the final and looking to progress higher when a stone holed his radiator.
He told Motorsport News at that event that he was seeking a switch to UK slicks-and-wings racing for 2024, and he has sealed a full F4 season after testing the car with Fortec, the team that took FIA Formula 3 table-leader Luke Browning to 2020’s British F4 title.
Berg said: “[Fortec] is a team with a great history with many of their past drivers now racing in Formula 1. I am confident that with the Fortec team behind my back, we will do very well this season. It has been a lot of hard work over the off-season to make this possible.”
Team manager Ollie Dutton added: “He has been fast and done well in the United States and we’ll be continuing to help him develop and grow as a racing driver. We’ve already had a positive impression with him during testing and know he will be putting in the hours ready to hit the ground running at Donington Park [the seasonopening round].”
