All bets are off as Hill makes a flying start

-

All the way down the Protyre ranks there were tales of heroic drives, monster moments and challenging conditions. One of the star performances came from William Hill and Peredur Wyn Davis in their Ford Fiesta Rally3 that bagged Class E victory over the Mitsubishi Lancer E10 of Wayne Sisson and Michael Hendry.

Hill simply drove the doors off the Rally3 car and pushed it well up the overall leaderboard despite an intermittent flatshift problem in the middle stages. At the finish, Hill said: “Very happy to be here with the tricky conditions.”

Equally impressive were top twowheel-drive finishers Darren Atkinson and Matthew Daniels in their Ford Escort Mk2 who finished the day with 35 seconds in hand over the flying Darrian T90 GTR of Wayne Jones and Dafydd Evans. “All credit to the organisers for pulling that off,” said Atkinson who was fortunate to make it to the finish after a late throttle cable failure.

Ben Crump and Ian Beamond got a very late call to start after being first reserve until Friday morning. They converted that into a fine class victory and saw off the flying Michael Harbour and Cameron Dunn by 16s in an Escort Mk2 contest.

Son and father Rory and Paul McCann were the toast of the 1600s in their flying Honda Civic. Like many, their first competitive stage was not until around 1500hrs but they loved what they did as McCann attacked with typical pace.

There was a mighty battle in the

1400s as Mark and Andrew Constantine took a five-second victory over Simon Hunter and Howard Pridmore in a battle of the Vauxhall Corsas.
