HARRHY MAKES UP FOR DAD’S HEARTBREAK AT HEDNESFORD
Jake Harrhy won his second Tarmac final of the year when he crossed the line first at Hednesford Hills Raceway on Sunday. It means he has now won two of the three finals on the sealed surface this season.
It was an emotional win for Harrhy. He explained: “When my dad [Nigel] won the final at Hednesford back in 2016, he got disqualified afterwards for a scrutineering infraction. We have gone through every emotion going ever since then. Today I won the final at Hednesford to redeem the heartbreak we had that day: dad that was for you.”
Louis Goodwin took up the early lead and held off Harrhy for several laps before the West Midlands driver forced his way through. Goodwin remained on Harrhy’s tail but, with five laps to go, Harrhy opened up a five-car gap.
Behind the leading duo,
Karl Hawkins was barging his way to the front. As the race entered the closing stages he punted Kyle Gray wide for third place but was unable to catch the race leaders. Charlie Sworder moved into fourth on the penultimate lap.
“It feels great to win,” added Harrhy. “Goodwin was hard to catch. He drove a great race and I am glad he managed to hang on for second. After I passed him, I just concentrated on my race and looking forward, I had no idea if anyone was catching me or not.”
