MOTORSPORT UK MOVES TO PROTECT FUTURE OF BRITISH FOREST RALLYING
New charter aims to regulate the behaviour of clubs and competitors going forward
Motorsport UK has taken a bold step towards protecting the future of UK forest rallying with the launch of what it is calling the Sustainable Rally Charter.
The initiative was unveiled during the 50th-anniversary running of the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages and followed extensive consultation with the forest rallying community and forestry bodies across the UK.
The charter provides a set of sustainable behaviours for clubs and competitors and demonstrates a major commitment to the future of forest rallying. The charter encourages organising clubs to work with Motorsport UK, venues and spectators to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect biodiversity and work with local communities in the running of events.
The move is designed to give rallying a long and sustainable future within the UK forests. Clubs can sign up to the charter and access a number of tools and resources available from Motorsport UK to help ensure the future of their events and forest rallying in general.
Jonathan Jackson, head of rallying at Motorsport UK and a prominent UK co-driver, said: “The Sustainable Rally Charter outlines how our sport will embrace sustainability going forward. We hope that the creation of a charter will clearly set out expectations for clubs looking to run events, and highlight the tools available to help, while ensuring that our sport remains safe, sustainable and fun for everyone.”
Hugh Chambers, Motorsport UK’s CEO, added: “We are facing a pivotal point for rallying in the UK, not only is the sport growing in popularity, but our clubs continue to attract new members and interest. We are certain that by using the charter as a basis we can safeguard the sport we love and create a bright, and vibrant, future for the next generation.”
