26km… Going Nowhere At All!

-

Iam a recreational rower, both indoors, and outdoors on the water,” says Clair Johnson, who works for PDSA. “When the London Marathon on April 26 was cancelled, people were challenged to raise money for their favourite charity involving something with the numbers 2 and 6. I realised that I could combine my twins loves for the PDSA and rowing by fundraising on my rowing machine in my back garden. I would normally row 2.6km as a training warm-up, so my target was 26km!

“I raised around £400, taking 2 hours and 20 minutes. My passion for PDSA was the motivation I needed to complete the task, thinking about the cute but poorly pets that we look after and the fact that the need for our ser vices will only rise over the coming weeks and months as more people find themselves in financial hardship.

“Our frontline vets and nurses are working really hard to provide ser vices to our clients and me going through a little bit of pain for a couple of hours, getting sore legs and a couple of blisters, was nothing in comparison to the experience of many people at the moment.

“Ever y small amount of donated money is ver y much appreciated and so valuable to us. There are many ways to fundraise, including our new vir tual Dogs Dinner event – the idea is for a dinner par ty via video conferencing, Zoom or equivalent, perhaps having dishes star ting with the letters P, D, S or A, where guests make a donation to the charity.

“Ever yone can do something practically, vir tually – or even in the back garden, like me!”

In times of uncer tainty and hardship pets will still fall ill or be injured and need emergency, life-saving care. To help PDSA continue to provide emergency treatment during the pandemic visit www.pdsa.org.uk/appeal.
