YOU WILL NEED

Materials:

● One ball of light worsted (DK/8-ply) yarn in grey (A); and oddments in light pink, dark pink and green; 50g/136yd/124.5m

● Two small pink buttons

Hook:

● 3mm (US C or D, UK 11)

Gauge (tension):

● 22 sc (UK dc) measures 4in (10 cm) in width

Fit:

● 3-6 months

● Sole is approx. 3in (7.75cm) long

Special stitch:

● Crab stitch – also called reverse single crochet (UK reverse double crochet) – is worked from left to right. Make 1 chain, insert hook from front to back into next stitch to the right; yo and draw yarn through stitch (two loops on hook), yo and draw yarn through both loops on hook. One crab stitch is completed.

Instructio­ns:

Sole: make two

Using yarn A, make 9 ch, 1 sc (UK dc) into second ch from hook, 1 sc (UK dc) into each ch to end, turn (8 sts). Next row: 1 ch, 1 sc (UK dc) into each st to end, turn.

Work 2 more rows in sc (UK dc).

Next row: 1 ch, 2 sc (UK dc) in first st, sc (UK dc) in each st to last st, 2 sc (UK dc) in last st, turn (10 sts). Work 3 rows sc (UK dc).

Next row: 1 ch, 2 sc (UK dc) in first st, sc (UK dc) in each st to last st, 2 sc (UK dc) in last st, turn (12 sts). Work 6 rows in sc (UK dc).

Next row: 1 ch, sc2tog (UK dc2tog), sc (UK dc) in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog (UK dc2tog), turn (10 sts). Work 1 row of sc (UK dc).

Next row: 1 ch, sc2tog (UK dc2tog), sc (UK dc) in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog (UK dc2tog), turn (8 sts).

Work 1 row of sc (UK dc) and fasten of f.

This is the toe end.

Upper: make two

With sole facing you, rejoin yarn A to left-hand side of the toe end. (The 8 sc/UK dc at front of toe end will be left free.) 1 ch, work 17 sc (UK dc) along first side of sole, 8 sc (UK dc) across heel end, and 17 sc

(UK dc) along other side of sole

(42 sts). Work 8 more rows in sc (UK dc) on these sts, turning work after each row. Fasten off yarn A. Join in yarn B, do not turn work but work from right to left to create a row of crab stitch. Fasten of f. 20 to Crochet:

Button loop: make two Using yarn B, make 12 ch, fasten of f.

To make up

Sew one shor t end of the upper section to the missed 8 sc (UK dc) at the toe end, then wrap the other shor t end over the first piece and sew in place. Reverse the wrapover on the other shoe. Embroider a small flower using bullion stitch onto the side of each shoe. Add some leaves in chain stitch. Attach button loops; sew buttons on firmly to correspond with button loops.
