PASS THE POPCORN

Pete also casts his eye over the movie landscape, from new releases to classics of the silver screen

-

Cinemas are mercifully back up and running in the devastating wake of Covid-19. And while there is a reduced slate of new releases to tease us, protective mask and all, back into multiplexes over the next few months, the sense of normality slowly returning to our lives is cer tainly hear tening.

What follows is my 10 most anticipated movies for the rest of 2020 – there’s something here for ever yone!

No Time To Die

Daniel Craig is pulled back in for one more muscular outing as our favourite, flawed superspy James Bond. No Time To Die begins with 007 enjoying a happy retirement in Jamaica, but something tells me his well-earned peace is about to be shattered!

Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) is the villain this time round and while

I’ll always miss Sir Roger Moore’s arched eyebrow and awful quips when watching these modern Bonds, this is still sure to be a blast.

Tenet

Christopher Nolan is the mastermind behind such brainbox blockbusters as Inception and Interstellar, and his latest – Tenet – looks like another sci-fi hit. Myster y surrounds the plot, but early buzz suggests it involves WWII, time travel and plenty of explosions.

Top Gun: Maverick

He’s back! More than 30 years after the beloved first film, Tom Cruise’s charismatic pilot returns for more aerial high jinks alongside old co-star Val Kilmer and a fleet of new faces.

The Woman In The Window

Amy Adams and Julianne Moore star in this thriller about an agoraphobic woman who thinks she witnesses her neighbour being murdered. Sounds like a modern twist on Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window – which is fine by me!

Mulan

Disney’s current love of live-action remakes shows no sign of slowing down with this version of the 1998 animation, following warrior Mulan and her heroic battle against Hun invaders.

West Side Story

The classic star-crossed musical is revived by Steven Spielberg, as the Jets and the Sharks battle it out on the streets of 1950s New York once more.

Death On The Nile

Kenneth Branagh takes on another of Agatha Christie’s famous whodunnits, following sleuth Poirot as he uncovers a murder while on holiday in Egypt.

BIOS

Poor Tom Hanks is all on his own yet again – this time not on the deser t island of Cast Away, but as the last human left on a post-apocalyptic Ear th.

Wonder Woman 1984

Gal Gadot returns as the Amazonian superhero, fighting off Cold War foes including Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah.

A Quiet Place Part II

The first film was a surprise horror hit so a scar y sequel was inevitable!
