PET PARADE

Where would we be without out fine feathered and furr y friends? We help you to make the best of your pet with a spot of animal whispering and all the best in pet news

-

In this year of uncer tainty our pets have been a source of comfor t. We’ve had more time to play and we’ve welcomed the reassuring familiarity of their routines – dogs still needed exercise and cats still detected the opening of a packet of ham from three rooms away!

We should all raise a paw to salute some of the animal heroes of this year who’ve worked so hard to maintain the welfare of our pets during lockdown. Staff like Karen Jones, one of the PDSA’s Pet Hospital nurses. She and her colleagues have been on call 24/7 covering furloughed staf f, liaising with owners, and working hard to put measures in place to maintain personal safety. Animal ser vice charities and rescues have been stretched to the limit while precious income streams have been suspended.

What a great distraction animal antics are from the daily news bulletins! Look out for broadcaster Andrew Cotter’s hilarious Twitter voiceovers on videos of his Labradors Mabel and Olive. They are far better behaved than many animal clips doing the rounds. Naughty pets are always hilarious so long as they belong to someone else! A sur vey by proper ty buyers Good Move has identified that the three most common misdeeds at home are 1) Digging up flowers or grass, 2) ripping up home furnishings and 3) weeing or pooing on home furnishings.

The most commonly identified culprits? Bronze medal goes to the British shor thair cat. Silver in this dubious award ceremony is claimed by the Labrador dog. And topping the poll? Gold goes to you, you pesky moggie cats!
