TO ASSEMBLE

To assemble the unicorn, first make the mane and tail separately, and stuf f. Add the hooves to the cutout of the unicorn body, before backstitching the body together. Backstitch from the hooves upward, stitching in the tail, horn and mane as you go. Stuff the body, using a stick for the hard-toreach corners. Attach the wings, ears and cord before you close up the shape. Draw in the eye with indelible marker pen.

Once all the shapes are made, use the cords to attach to the embroider y ring.

Sweet dreams!

TECHNIQUES

1 Print out our templates from myweekly.co.uk and cut out the paper shapes.

Fold the chosen felt fabric in half, to make sure you have two of each shape. Draw around the templates using pen or pencil. Cut as many shapes as you have decided to include.

2 When cutting out, use two or three pins to hold the fabric in place so that there is no slippage, and to ensure matching symmetrical shapes. Make sure when cutting out that you cut as close as possible inside the pen or pencil marks to guarantee a per fect finish.

3 Keeping the shapes pinned, use a backstitch to stitch around the shape leaving a gap for the stuffing.

Note: it is best to leave the gap for stuffing on a straight edge so it is easier to sew after stuffing. For fun, the thread can be any colour, and doesn’t have to match the fabric.

4 Use a stick or scissors to fill the stuffing in hard-to-reach corners. After stuffing, continue to backstitch to close up the shapes. When assembling, lay out all your pieces to assess the length of cord you wish to cut, leaving enough to be inser ted inside each shape as you sew up.
