LEIPZIG, CITY OF MUSIC

-

Leipzig is also known as The City of Music. This beautiful German city has a musical heritage second to none and features the 5km Leipzig Music Trail – a signposted route that highlights the many famous composers who lived and worked there.

Johann Sebastian Bach, Richard Wagner, Edvard Grieg and Gustav Mahler are just a few of the names you’ll encounter as you follow the curved stainless steel shapes set in the ground which mark the “ribbon” that winds its way through the city centre. An audio guide even plays a number of musical pieces and audio clips from the great composers as you follow the tour.

Or simply stroll around the city and enjoy the various buskers and outdoor concerts. Music really is everywhere!

Make sure you take a trip on The Karl-Heine-Kanal, built in west Leipzig in the 19th century by industrialist Karl Heine. Explore by canoe, rowing boat, motor boat or even Venetian gondola – you can take your pick. Welcoming cafés and restaurants line the canal and some of the old factories along its length have been c converted into stunning a apartments and homes.

Don’t forget to check out the S Spinnerei, a former cotton mill t that was once the largest in c continental Europe. Now home t to over 100 artists, musicians, d dancers, printers and designers, t this very unusual complex – with overo 14 galleries and exhibitions – is definitely worth a visit.
