Christmas is just over a month away and according to Halifax we’re expected to spend over £500 – with one in three of us still paying for it next April! So here are my top tips to cut your spending the easy way.

Put off buying cards until December when most places start selling them off. Or bag a 3-for-2 deal and split with friends.

Post cards and parcels second class. Always put cards in with presents instead of sending separately.

Stock up on small boxes of chocolates from Poundland. I spotted After Eight Mints (140g) there for £1.

Buying from Amazon? Check UK.CAMELCAMELCAMEL.COM which lets you know when the item you want is cheapest.

Fix nights out in January, when restaurants have discount deals after Christmas. You can save and have something to look forward to!

Stock up on frozen rather than fresh food. If you don’t eat it, it won’t be wasted.

Artificial trees are cheaper. Check Tesco or Dunelm for pocket friendly prices.

Check delivery charges with online shopping. Or opt for the free Click & Collect service, and arrange to collect all your orders the same day.

Garden centres and gift shops often have gorgeous but expensive gifts. Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s all do great value gifts, on beauty, home and garden.

Be one step ahead. For discount vouchers and details of flash sales, go to WWW.MONEYSAVINGEXPERT.COM.
