“Despite our very best intentions, temptation is never far away!” says Fiona. “To add to the inevitable January gloom, we have to start thinking diet and weight loss to give ourselves the best chance of repairing the damage. “However, there is increasing evidence that a quick-fix diet can be a great place to start – principall­y because when we see weight loss within a week or two we are much more likely to stay focused and continue. “But it’s got to be a diet bursting with goodness and jam-packed with tasty and filling meals and snacks that not only keep us energised but also encourage accelerate­d fat loss. “Very low calorie diets and fad diets that invariably emerge at this time of the year are more than likely to leave us feeling tired, grumpy and deprived, and unsurprisi­ngly we are likely to quit all too soon – so don’t risk it!” FIRST THING EVERY MORNING Give your liver and digestion some early morning love!

Cleansing Juice Mix equal quantities of water, unsweetene­d grapefruit, pomegranat­e and cranberry juices in a large glass. Add a pinch of cinnamon, ginger and allspice and stir well. You can also warm it through gently and have it hot on a chilly morning.

OR Hot Lemon and Ginger Put 1 or 2 tablespoon­s of freshly-squeezed lemon juice in a mug of hot water, add a good pinch of sea salt crystals, grate in some peeled fresh root ginger, stir well and leave to cool a little before stirring in a teaspoon of Manuka honey.

BREAKFAST OR ANY TIME BEFORE MID MORNING A filling balance of protein, fat and carbohydra­te yogurt, a good handful of oats and lots of berries

OR

Cottage Cheese with Fresh Fruit Small carton of natural, full fat cottage cheese, plus plenty of fruit

LUNCH Now is the time for a bit of starch for all-afternoon energy and focus!

Choose from: 1 thick slice of dark rye bread or 2 seeded rye crisp breads with topping from suggested list (see recipes overleaf)

OR

A bowl of filling homemade soup (see recipes overleaf) DINNER A good helping of protein, a few good fats, plenty of vegetables and no starch in the evening is the way to go for super-fast fat loss

Chorizo ✦ Fabulous Warm Salad (see recipes overleaf)

MID MORNING AND/OR MID AFTERNOON SNACK (OPTIONAL) Make your snacks matter!

Mixed Fresh Nuts and Seeds 2 handfuls maximum per day

Hummus and Raw Vegetable Sticks Small carton of hummus, lots of vegetable sticks
