Look, Act and Feel… Ageless

-

You’re as young as you feel – and no generation has ever proved this saying so successfully as the women currently in the 40+ age group!

“Today’s women look, feel and act so much younger than previous generations due to a combination of good nutrition, improved health and beauty care and a determination to live longer and look younger,” explains Dr Sarah Brewer, GP.

Age is no longer a barrier to our ambitions. A new career, taking up mountaineering or travelling – the ageless generation’s giving it a go!

“It’s about embracing life and what’s on offer,” says psychologist Dr Meg Arroll ( WWW.DRMEGARROLL.COM). “This makes us feel young so we keep fit and active, into our 50s and beyond.”

Tricia Cusden (68), founder of skincare brand Look Fabulous Forever, agrees. “Many of us were teenagers in the 60s and 70s, which encouraged us to be individuals. Also, the women’s movement gave us rights and freedoms unheard of for previous generations and, as a result, we have a more youthful attitude than our mothers.”

Online fitness trainer Julia Buckley stresses that a healthy lifestyle is an important aspect of being ageless. “Eat natural, wholesome foods, enjoy moving around and appreciate the health you have.”

‘You can always find time for what you’re passionate about!’

Having a passion keeps you young – and I’m passionate about yoga,” says part-time yoga instructor Ali Henderson (54).

“I taught myself yoga when I was 17 and I’ve done it daily ever since.

“When I was in my late 40s, my daughter, who worked in a gym at the time, put my name forward when her boss said they were looking for a yoga instructor.

“I have a full-time job as a magazine editor so I already had a busy life, but when my daughter’s boss offered to support me with yoga instructor training so I could take classes at the gym, I jumped at the chance. You can always find time for something you’re passionate about!

“Once I was qualified, I also started a weekly lunchtime yoga class at the publishing company where I work, which has been very successful.

“I now also do one-to-one yoga sessions and teach yoga at an adult learning association – where, in summer, I move my yoga class to a nearby park. There’s something wonderful about doing yoga in the great outdoors.

“It’s very rewarding to see how yoga helps people. I had one lady in my class who had back problems and, after her first course of yoga, she was able to paint her toenails for the first time in years.

“My yoga business has evolved – there was very little planning involved. It just happened.

“At the moment, my plan is that, when I reach retirement age, I’ll start my second career as a full-time yoga instructor. That will be great fun!”
