Beautiful Barcelona

The Catalan city is the ideal place for shopping, architecture and great food!

-

Avibrant, bustling metropolis, there’s no shortage of things to see and do in Barcelona.

You’ll need plenty of energy, but the city is rightly renowned for its restaurants and bars, meaning you’re rarely far from somewhere to refuel and relax.

Probably most famous for its architecture and art, culture vultures will feel at home among the spectacular buildings, which combine breathtaking scale with delightful details. Most famous of all is the work of Antoni Gaudi, whose visual flourishes and eye for the unusual feature throughout the city. A visit to Barcelona will not be complete until you venture to the aweinspiring Sagrada Familia – Gaudi’s most famous work. A Roman Catholic church, the sheer scale of it has to be seen to be believed.

Only a five-minute taxi ride from the city centre, the unique spires dominate the skyline, but the exterior is only the beginning. Once inside, you are treated to some wonderful sights, from small carvings to giant stained-glass windows.

A trip up one of the towers will cost a bit extra, but it’s worth paying for as the views afforded of the city from the top are second to none.

Sagrada Familia is just the start. There are several other parks and houses designed by Gaudi peppered throughout the region, some of which are located in the heart of the city, which make them ideal to take in while you indulge in another great Barcelona pastime – shopping.

All the major designers have a presence in Barcelona, but for a truly authentic shopping experience, a walk down the famous Las Ramblas is a must. Linking the city centre to the sea, this kilometre-long street is a hive of activity, with hundreds of market stalls offering everything from homemade jewellery and souvenirs to delicious ice cream and crêpes.

It gets very busy, however, so allow yourself plenty of time for breaks to get the most from the experience.

Once you’ve shopped ‘til

you’ve dropped, you will find plenty of places to stop for food. Tapas bars and restaurants offer authentic Catalan cuisine, but there are pizzas, seafood and burger joints aplenty. If you are just looking for a light bite, there’s nothing to beat sitting in one of the many pavement cafés with a coffee or ice-cold refreshment and a slice of homemade cake.

Ideal for families, or for just the two of you, Barcelona is epic, stylish and satisfying, no matter what your holiday goals are.
