AM I A CARER?
With so many people not recognising that they know people who are caring for others every day, it could be that we don’t realise that we, too, are carers. How about you?
What makes someone a carer? Well, if you are the one helping someone with their everyday needs – like washing, dressing, eating and taking medicines – you are a carer.
If you always assist someone with getting to medical appointments, doing their shopping and cleaning and/or you are essential to them managing their education, that is being a carer too. Sometimes being a carer is a
short-term thing while the person recuperates from an operation, illness or accident. In other cases, being a carer is something that you have been doing, and will continue to do, long-term.
