HOW CAN WE HELP A CARER?
If you know or think that someone is a carer, what can be done to help them out? Well, one of the first and best things you can do is be there for them.
They might not always be able to make social occasions and outings, but please keep asking them! Spend time with them whenever possible, but check before dropping in unannounced as playing host when you are a carer can be taxing. Maybe you could bring the coffee and doughnuts!
Ask them what would work for them – maybe they would really value a chum to help them with the shopping and to share a supermarket cuppa with. Perhaps there is a good time of day to catch up over a phone call. And don’t shy away from conversations about their caring tasks and things like hospital appointments. All you have to do to help is listen.
