“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to make a positive difference for women,” says Fleur Robinson (43), who is commercial director at Burton Albion Football Club and a passionate believer in supporting her local community.
“Burton Albion has a community trust which helps people in many ways, including providing opportunities to learn, helping improve employability, providing a mental health sports programme and running a Girls Only youth club.”
In the run-up to International Women’s Day, Fleur organised Burton Albion Community Trust’s personal development day for 100 girls in sixth form at local secondary schools. “This free event included workshops on finance, making a positive impact and confident communication,” explains Fleur. “In today’s busy world, if young women can develop skills such as being able to communicate confidently, they’ll be better prepared to share their valuable ideas.
“I have two young girls myself and I want them to be able to express how they’re feeling and what they can offer. I would have loved to have been offered support like this when I was at school.
“This event provided these young women with a chance to consider the choices they need to make at 16/17 while also opening their eyes to the many possibilities in front of them.” Visit HTT URT AL I C U ITYTRU T C U
