Hang shorter garments at one end of your wardrobe; store items underneath

-

British Heart Foundation’s furniture and electrical shops offer free collections of larger items – either call your local BHF shop or book an uplift online at WWW.BHF.ORG.UK.

If you’d rather make extra cash from your unwanted items, websites such as Gumtree are very good at releasing cupboard equity!

“Items listed in the For Sale section on Gumtree receive the most views and replies on a Wednesday,” reveals Hannah Wilson of Gumtree.

BE CLEVER WITH STORAGE Everyday items with hidden storage really help to keep clutter out of sight. Look out for tables with secret drawers for letters and documents, foot stools with space for magazines and beds with bases which can double as a linen cupboard. “When things have a home, we’re more likely to put them away,” says interior designer Judith Harrop.

EMBRACE MINIMALISM Call a halt to your hoarding habits by asking yourself “Do I really need this?” whenever you feel the urge to add a new item to your home – or when you’re tempted by a new outfit. “With clothes, only buy something if you love it and it suits you,” says decluttering expert Louise Floodgate of WWW. MESSYMOOLIFESTYLE.COM.

According to Feng Shui expert Prya Sher, the secret of a clutter-free life is a tidy hallway. “Ensure the hall is clutter-free so energy can circulate,” says Prya. “Place coats and shoes inside a cupboard so they don’t stagnate energy.”
