Money Talk

Sales fever has hit the shops and it’s tempting to try and snap up a bargain, but don’t waste your money if it’s not something you’ll use, wear or need. It’s time to get tough with my savvy tactics for surviving the summer sales… Turn detective

Sales aren’t the only time to bag big discounts as some stores regularly match competitors’ prices, so look out for these special events. Use this crafty trick on Amazon to check if you’ve got the best price – pop what you’re after into HTTPS://UK.CAMELCAMELCAMEL.COM/ and this tracks the price so you know if you’re getting the best deal. Stay focused

Unless it’s a closing down sale, stores don’t usually flog everything off. So sale stuff may be carefully arranged near the “new” range or full price stock. Stay strong and look the other way, or you’ll end up spending twice as much! Check returns rights

You get all the usual shopping rights with sales items. So if you buy something and it’s faulty, you can exchange it or get a refund. But if you’re buying “seconds” and get a discount because of a fault – say a mark on a pair of shoes – you can’t bring them back because of this. Double your discount

You may be able to bag “double discount” adding in discount vouchers. Small print means this doesn’t usually include sale items but I’ve had some go through online, so it’s worth a go.
