THE FUN JUST SNOWBALLS!
Make the most of your time in the resort as well as taking on bigger trips. There’s Europe’s longest toboggan slide, and it’s the best fun you’ll have had since your childhood.
Sleds are free to use, too – just pick one up, usually by roadsides and outside shops. Venture out to experience ice fishing, reindeer sled rides, mini skidoos, Igloo Fantasia (where you can join the Secret Elf Squad – sssh!), snow hockey and enjoy a private meeting with Santa. Sit back on a reindeer ride to find him hidden away in a log cabin in the woods, led by some cheeky elves. And what a sheer delight it was to meet the all-important man himself, his warm, jolly embrace truly added some magic dust to the whole trip.
Another highlight, reducing us to tears, was the husky sled rides. Fast, furious yet serenely beautiful, the howling and yelping of these beautiful working dogs in the snowy, lilac lighting of dawn will stay with us forever.
Do stop off at the ice bar, inside a spectacular igloo, and make sure to explore the village and Christmas gift shops which are surprisingly inexpensive. Take the special Northern Lights Adventure trip, explore the wild terrain on a snowmobile safari, try downhill and cross country skiing or opt for snowshoeing, the best way to get around on foot.
