What A Total Nightmare…

-

It’s time for bed… You’ve got your fleecy PJs on, you’ve had a hot chocolate, read a chapter of your book and now you’re oh, so sleepy… And then it starts. Grrr! The snoring, the duvet stealing, the mobile phone beep-beep-beeping all night long. Not another night in the spare room! Are you and your other half on opposite sides of the duvet battlefield?

Well, you’re not alone. Mattress Online ran a survey to get the lowdown on our sleeping habits, and the results tell a scary bedtime story. Almost one-third of us can’t seem to drop off because of our partner’s sleeping habits – with snoring being a major culprit, and 25% of us citing it as one of the most common reasons for arguments.

Some of us like to head off to bed early and are then early to rise in the morning; others prefer to burn the midnight oil and have a bit of a lie-in the next day. With lights going on and off and the rustling around that goes with different bedtime routines, lines in the bedsheet boundaries can be drawn. Worry not, though! With our tips, a little bit of a chat – and some compromise – you will soon both be sleeping soundly again.

The first step in the night-time negotiations is definitely some honest communication – side-eye, hurrumphing and throwing shade do not count! Agree to spend some time talking about your sleep solutions at a time when you’re both relatively bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, perhaps in the early evening or at the weekend. Aim to solve issues and not trade accusations – this chat is about moving forward!
