Winter Fun!

-

Passing the time over the winter holidays is every family’s top priority, and with the royals it’s no different. Traditionally the evening before Christmas is spent enjoying dinner together and exchanging gifts. However in recent years, Prince William and Harry have taken part in a charity football match with the local Sandringham team. According to sources, the event is usually full of good-natured humour, with Prince William once asking a ref to give his brother a yellow card! Most of the family show up to watch the pair compete.

The Royals then regroup for afternoon tea while the little ones add decorations to the Christmas tree in the White Drawing Room.

After gifts have been exchanged, more food has been eaten and drink has been downed, Christmas Eve closes and Christmas Day ensues!

The royals wake early for a private church service at 9am for the Queen to take communion, and then they make the paparazzi walk back to the church of St Mary Magdalene for public worship at 11am.

In 2016, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were snapped holding some yummy candy canes for being so well behaved in church.

After church, they enjoy a main meal, and in the afternoon come together to support the monarch by listening to the Queen’s annual speech.

And to carry on the festive joy well into the night, evening activities include charades, jigsaw puzzles, or a movie projected onto a big screen in the ballroom.

On Boxing Day, it’s tradition for Prince Philip to host a pheasant hunt on the estate, while the Queen enjoys a long walk with her corgis.
