’Tis The Season To Be Entertained

From “aaaah” too “aaaghh” – here’s the cream of what’s on screens big and small this Christmas…

-

TRADITIONAL JOY

Good old Ewan McGregor. Christopher Robin is the timeless tale of a young boy living in London who befriends a bear, a pig, a donkey and a tiger among others, but this time, the tale is reimagined. Christopher is back with his gang, but he’s a grown man. He’s not a ver y happy grown man though, so his lovable childhood friends join him in the big city to help him find the joy of life all over again. Innocent, family-fun adventure for everyone this Christmas.

A FESTIVE HAUNTING

Scare yourself silly with The Nun. Coming to streaming service Rakuten TV, among others, from mid-December, this is the perfect horror for a wintry night. Cue a priest with a haunted past, the death of a young nun in Romania and apparently you should “pray for forgiveness” before watching… you have been warned!

SAVVY SANTA FUN

We love that Kurt Russell is back on our screens with The Christmas Chronicles as Santa himself, and what a jolly, straight-talking Santa he is. Even when a brother and sister accidentally crash his sleigh, they all pull together for an all-nighter of adventure to save the big day. (Netflix)

CHRISTMAS ROMANCE

Christmas at Pemberley Manor follows a beautiful New York event planner as she’s sent to a quaint, small town to organise their holiday festival. She meets William, the very handsome, high-profile billionaire who lacks holiday spirit. Expect romance, lots of beautiful Christmas snowy scenes and candy canes galore. (Christmas 24)

FANTASYFUN

The magic of Christmas oozes from The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, out in cinemas now. In a nutshell (no pun intended) Clara needs a magical key, which is very rare, to unlock a box that contains a priceless gift. Needless to say this isn’t easy and it soon disappears into a mysterious parallel world where she comes across Phillip the soldier, a group of mice and the regents who look after the three realms. Together they enter the fourth realm to retrieve the key and restore harmony throughout the land. Such a feelgood film, and perfect for all the family.

FAMILY FAVOURITE

Mary Poppins is back in the much-heralded Mary Poppins Returns. Fifty-four years later, Emily Blunt has brought the magical nanny back to life in a simply splendid catch-up with the very lady who brought life and laughter to Jane and Michael, now in Depression-era London. Don’t be fooled, though, this is no remake – Michael is now a father of three himself and needs a little help of his own. Cue the rediscovering of joy all over again from his childhood. Wonder ful!

LAUGH-OUT-LOUD

Head to the cinema now for a sing-your-socks off, rocking around the Christmas tree couple of hours. Nativity Rocks follows the staff and students from St Bernadette’s Primary School in Coventry as they audition for a place at a rock musical competition. Laughter galore!

ACTION-PACKED

Jason Momoa isn’t a bad sight to see as you relax at the cinema, and Aquaman is a real hot superhero treat. The hero finds himself caught between a land that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans who are all set to revolt. Action adventure at its best.
